Regional Prevention Center of the Flint Hills

Strengthening Individuals, Families & Communities

The Regional Prevention Center of the Flint Hills (RPCFH) is located within the Mental Health Center of East Central Kansas in Emporia, with a branch office in El Dorado. The RPCFH serves 10 counties and offers comprehensive prevention services within this catchment area.

The RPCFH is one of 13 across the state that are catalysts for innovative, coordinated, research-based prevention services that reduce the risks and increase protective factors in Kansas families and communities.

The RPCFH is working to build a strong foundation of community support for the reduction of adolescent problem behaviors.

By assisting communities in building the capacity to address youth health and behavior problems, we are empowering them at a local level to create safe and healthy environments for youth to live, learn and grow.

THE RISKS ARE REAL…

· Kids are our future. But the scary fact is that today’s youth face many pressures. Kids as young as the age of 10 have probably already had the chance to either say “Yes” or “No” to alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.

· Early first drug use is extremely harmful because children’s bodies are still developing, and they seem to become dependent on chemical substances faster than adults do.

· Alcohol and other drug use is a major contributor to teen crime, automobile crashes, violence, suicide, AIDS and teen pregnancy.

· Abuse and addiction wounds destroy Kansas families. Research continues to reinforce the link between family violence and alcohol and other drug abuse.

REDUCE THE RISKS…

· Parents, teachers, youth group leaders, businesses, community and civic organizations, churches, and public agencies can all help reduce the risk by building a foundation of support for healthy behavior.

· Contact the Regional Prevention Center of the Flint Hills to get your family, group, business, or organization active in prevention efforts.
